InterSolar Europe 2013

From 19-th to June 21, me and two of my colleagues visited the largest exhibition for solar technologies in the world – Intersolar Europe. The exhibition is held every year in June in Munich, Germany and is really HUGE

This year, most exhibitors were focusing on the topic of using the produced from photovoltaic modules electrical energy for selfconsumtion, the so-called energy management systems. There were represent two mainly technical solutions:

First type: Storage energy system, based on batteries or other energy storage technology. Our partners Kaco New Energy presented a new product Powador Gridsave under the motto” Storing energy.Managing energy”. Here you can watch a video presentation of Powador Gridsave.
Second type: Set of devices opearting as a system by using communication protocols. The system contribute the selfconsumtion instead of grid feeding. .

Energy management systems include controller, batteries, inverter and special developed software, all assembled in a cabinet. All of theese allows to use the produced electrical energy on the most efficient way.

Lithium-ion batteries are the most used battery in energy management systems.  Indisputable are their many advantages over lead-acid batteries. At this time as their disadvantage is only the price. Tendencies are after 1-2 years this technology to be widely applicable to off-grid photovoltaic systems not only from a technical point, but also from an economic.
